Roberta L. Morris, Executive Director, DeKalb Workforce Development

 

Roberta Morris is the Executive Director for DeKalb Workforce Development where she is responsible for carrying out the E 3 (Economic Development -Education and Employment) initiative outcomes under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA).   Her career in workforce development began in 1998 as a Board Member and in 2004 as an employee with the City of Atlanta before being asked to come to De K alb County.   Morris served as Deputy Director in which she was instrumental in creating and implementing new program designs for youth and adult program initiatives.

 

Morris brought the vision of “School Is My First Job! to Dekalb County in December 2005 and continues to advocate on behalf of its mission to become a state and national recognized concept. She received the Sue Ellen Owens A ward for “School Is My First Job!” and “Women W ho C hange City Government”.   She has strategically aligned the efforts of DeKalb Workforce Development with industry partners.

 

Morris has served on several local Workforce Investment Boards and served as a Youth Council Chair from 2000-2003.   As a Board member, Morris represented the business perspective of Workforce Investment Act (WIA) programs and served as an advocate for process improvement of the Workforce Development Agencies and One Stops.   Morris currently serves on the Advisory Board for De K alb County United Way, Georgia Energy and Industrial Construction Consortium and the De K alb County Literacy Council, and a graduate of Leadership DeKalb, C lass of 2007.

 

Morris earned a Business degree from Shorter College and has over 20 years of Human R esources and Management experience.   As an entrepreneur, she owned and operated a staffing agency and is a member of the Female Minority Business Enterprise and SBA. Morris has two daughters in which she maintains a strong sense of family and community values.   She is passionate about being a change agent for Workforce Development and youth.
